Marc Chétrit

President
Marc has recently been designated by Quebec's Minister of Education for the application of the Charter of the French Language. Marc is a member of the Quebec Bar. He was a defense attorney for Legal Aid of Montreal and he interned as a prosecutor at the Municipal Court of Montreal. A graduate of both Université de Montréal and Université Paris 1: Panthéon-Sorbonne, Marc is currently writing his LL.M. thesis on regulating hate speech on the Internet in Canada. He is involved in many associations such as the Public Affairs Comity of the Young Bar of Montreal (CAP-AJBM) and is a young member of the Lord Reading Law Society. Marc enjoys cycling, travelling, science-fiction and diplomacy.

Rachel Guy-Levine

Vice-President
Rachel is currently a student in the Common Law National Program at the University of Ottawa, having recently completed her Civil Law degree. She has taken an interest in policy development and has recently been hired into the Federal Department of Justice Legal Excellence Program for articling in 2011. Prior to her entry into law school, Rachel completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Concordia University in Montreal. While at Concordia, Rachel commenced her campus involvement spending two years on the executive for Concordia Hillel and three years as an elected representative to the Concordia Student Union. While in law school, Rachel has been an active member of the University of Ottawa JLSA chapter both as the representative for Civil Law students and as co-president.

Jack A. Fattal

Political Action and Human Rights Chair
Jack graduated with honours from the civil law program at University of Ottawa and is currently enrolled in the common law program at Université de Montréal. Jack is dedicated to developing CJLSA's influence both within the legal community and on the Canadian political scene.

Simon Laliberté

Treasurer
Globetrotter since his youngest age, Simon's last trip has lead him to Kibbutz Mishmar Hasharon for 6 weeks in the summer of 2008. During his stay, he was struck by the beauty of the Holy Land and the richness of Jewish culture and has ever since developed an interest and a passion for it. Simon is presently a first-year law student at Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law.

Daniel Haboucha

Communications Director
Daniel is a second-year law student at McGill University, with an interest in international and human rights law. Prior to beginning his studies in law, he graduated with great distinction from McGill's integrated Arts and Science program with specializations in psychology, economics, and political science. While completing his undergraduate degree, he served for two years in the Canadian Forces as a reserve infantry soldier; during this period he also founded and managed Home Revolution, a small technology company specializing in home automation and multimedia solutions. In 2008-2009, Daniel was treasurer of the McGill Jewish Law Students Association. He is also actively involved with the McGill Legal Information Clinic, the faculty's Quid Novi newspaper, Discover McGill, Agence Ometz (Jewish Family Services), and the McGill Outdoors Club, and is a senior contributor to Legal Frontiers, McGill University's blog on international law.

Jeremy Cuttler

Jeremy is a first-year student at Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law. Prior to his legal studies, he completed his DEC in Honours Law and Social Justice at Marianopolis College where he was a member of the Law Club and part of the honours social science group. Additionally, Jeremy was on the honour role and received a Law & Social Justice Certificate with Distinction for his research projects integrating legal issues with the social sciences. During his spare time, Jeremy enjoys alpine skiing and photography.

Jon Katz

Conference Co-Chair
Jonathan is a second year law student at McGill University. Before beginning his legal education, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill with concentrations in political science, economics and Canadian history. In 2007, Jonathan interned on Parliament Hill for the Hon. Irwin Cotler P.C., M.P., O.C. and the Hon. Marlene Jennings P.C., M.P. A long-time Jewish community activist, Jonathan is also currently the General Coordinator of the Human Rights Working Group at the McGill Faculty of Law and is conducting research on hate speech legislation in Canada.

Michael Rappaport

Conference Co-Chair
Michael is the Managing Editor of the Canadian Bar Association’s magazine and the Canadian Corporate Council Association’s quarterly magazine. He is a lawyer and journalist based in Ottawa who has written for a wide range of legal publications including The National, CCCA Magazine, The Lawyers Weekly and LEXPERT Magazine. He earned his law degree from the University of Western Ontario and a journalism degree from Carleton University.
